Metro Bank to open second store

Metro Bank, the first new High Street bank in over 100 years, has accelerated its store roll out programme. It says this is in light of increasing customer demand for its services.

The bank, which offers seven day store banking and is open twice as long as other banks, will open three stores in as many months.

Cromwell Road, Earls Court, opens on Friday 3 September at 8am, following the recent launch of Metro Bank's flagship Holborn store.

In a bid to meet growing customer demand for additional stores, Metro Bank has brought forward the opening of its stores in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire and Fulham Broadway in West London. The developments form part of an ambitious expansion plan to open 200 stores over the next 10 years in Greater London.

Craig Donaldson, chief executive officer at Metro Bank, said: “The Holborn store opened to extraordinary customer demand – people were queuing for up to four hours to open their accounts – showing there is a real appetite amongst consumers for a better banking experience.

“This proves that customers are looking for true value – and we offer that value through services such as extended opening hours, free coin counting, and on the spot bank cards and cheque books, equating to great value on the High Street.

“We know that customers want the flexibility to bank when, where and how they want. We believe that, like great retailers and unlike other banks, customers should be at the heart of the proposition. We have an ambitious expansion plan and we want to respond to customer demand by opening as many stores as possible in the Greater London area and beyond.”

Customers at the Cromwell Road store will be greeted by three days of free give aways including free breakfasts, smoothies, and popcorn. Stilt walkers, musicians, jugglers and shoe shiners will also be on hand to kick start the celebrations.
