Dissatisfaction among conveyancing profession

Only one third of conveyancing practitioners are satisfied in their area of practice, according to a survey by Searches UK, a firm which provides searches to the conveyancing profession.

The survey, which was conducted among 700 conveyancing practitioners in the UK, found that 20 per cent of respondents said if they had their time over again they would not choose to work in conveyancing. Almost 69 per cent of respondents said if they had the opportunity to start again, probate and litigation would be the most popular alternative fields.

Having to deal with banks was reported as the most stressful part of the job, while dealing with estate agents came in second.

Dealing with clients was considered the most time consuming aspect of the job, while dealing with the solicitor on the other side and mortgage lenders were also ranked as key time consuming areas of the job.

When asked about their view on the future of conveyancing, the over-riding response was of general uncertainty and a fear that the role of a conveyancing practitioner would be reduced to `a mere form filling’ role – which most respondents consider will lead to further problems going forward.

The most satisfying part of a conveyancer’s job, cited by the vast majority of respondents was “getting a good result” and “having satisfied clients”.
